Adjectives to Describe People
In this lesson, we learn how to describe people using adjectives. We use the verb BE to describe a person, and we use the verb WEAR to describe clothes.
Grammar Rule
Use BE for age, height, and general description.
- She is young.
- He is tall.
- They are friendly.
Clothes Rule
Use WEAR / WEARING for clothes and accessories.
- She is wearing a pink dress.
- He is wearing sneakers.
- They are wearing uniforms.
Question to Practice
How can you describe a person?
Example: She is young and she is wearing a blue shirt.
Example 1
We use BE to describe the person.
She is young.
Example 2
We can talk about physical description.
He is tall.
Example 3
We use WEARING to describe clothes.
They are wearing uniforms.
Teacher Tip
Ask students to look at the pictures and say one sentence with BE and one sentence with WEARING. Example: “She is young. She is wearing a dress.”
